Its a pity they dont teach people how to handle emotions at shool.
Yes they can feel overwhelming and scary but they do not actually hurt us. They need to be allowed to move through us without labelling or judgement. They are just like waves of energy and will move on with acceptance and gentleness.
Telling someone to think positive when in the midst of a strong emotion is disallowing that person to release and experience and in my opinion pretty abusive.
Gentleness is the way and the positive thoughts will come naturally after release.
Denial inhibts and represses and is not at all natural.
So breathe, experience and accept.
